PALM BAY — Before the Class 3A, District 13 cross country championships Saturday morning, Bayside High coach Ronald Laleau wondered how the runners would like the course, which winds through the woods and brush behind the school. The answer came in numbers: low ones, many of which indicated personal-best times and in one case, a school record. The latter came at the feet of sophomore Steven Cross of Merritt Island, who led from the beginning of the race and finished in 15 minutes, 46 seconds, outpacing Garrett Camps of Melbourne (16:20) and teammate Carlos James (16:44).
